“I think us here to wonder, myself. To wonder. To ask. And that in wondering bout the big things and asking bout the big things, you learn about the little ones, almost by accident. But you never know nothing more about the big things than you start out with. The more I wonder, the more I love.” ― Alice Walker, The Color Purple
I’m honored to be a part of this series among such great musicians, and to be able to donate the proceeds to a wonderful charity in San Jose, Quetzal House. As with so many other Graveface releases, the artwork, care & attention, and—did you hear?—colored vinyl are also some of the reasons that make this release so special. Why I’m also excited is that The Old Manse was inspired by a song of my brother Matthew Sweat’s new music project, Inner City Cruiser; the song is “Seeing You Another Day,” a short instrumental on the release and one that led me down its particular path. It was beyond amazing to finally make some music with my brother, who also plays on “Kern” (you can hear a snippet of that song featured in the sampler video). As always, thank you so much for listening and for your support. -M.A.S.
